So a baby wearing Mama on the Ocah Yahoo group asked the question why not have a SSC (Soft structured carrier) style buckle waist on a wrap conversion ? At first I dismissed the idea after all why would you want the extra thick buckle waist on an otherwise soft and snuggly carrier ? but then I thought about it and figured that if it meant that this mama could have a carrier for her Little one (he is good at undoing buckled shoulder straps whilst be carried apparently !) that enabled her to keep on baby wearing in comfort then maybe I should give it a try. Well what can I say this persons ideas and enthusiasm were infectious and soon enough I was sucked in to throwing in a few ideas of my own. After exchanging many emails and receiving no less than 3, yes 3 ! pages of instructions and a very nice working drawing I started to work on the various new ideas that had been incorporated into the design. Over several busy weeks I played with different ways of making everything work and finally the OOAK wrap conversion with buckle waist, duo straps, leg padding, and "arms out" padding is finished. Before you get too excited and ask me to make you one of these carriers it took a long time to make and I am not planning on making any more just yet.
Duo Straps with a dual adjustable Buckle waist.
The Picture below shows how the Duo straps flair out from being padded at the top (for 45cm) to being the full width of a wrap strap.
The curved waist is padded using 4 layer of fleece fabric. Nylon webbing is sewn into the ends of the padded area of the waist and then threaded through the buckles. Leg padding was added for extra carrying comfort.
A small area of padding was added at the top of the carrier for "arms out" comfort.
The Duo straps are paddedd at the top of the strap and then flair out to give great support for you and you little one
