This really should have been a simple Symphuo conversion but I went ahead and made it much more complicated than it needed to be ! The Mama who ordered this OFB (who has the patience of a saint by the way) asked for her OFB to be made without a sleephood (remember this as we will come back to this in a moment) or if at all possible it should have a removeable sleephood.
So we have never really come up with a removeable hood design that works well on a 2 (or 3) layer wrap conversion, velcro and poppers are a not a good idea on these carriers and so then this lead me back to an old Ocah Mei Tai Design that had a tuckable hood. I emailed the Mama and asked if I should sew a tuckable hood on her OFB and seh happily agreed that I should go ahead. But what I hadnt really thought through was the fact that the tucakble hood on the Mei Tai was sewn into a carrier that had several layers of thick fabric and so the hood sat nice and flat inside the body of the carrier and it couldnt be felt when the carrier was worn. But with the softer thinner fabric on a wrap conversion when it was tucked in to the body the sleephood felt lumpy and the sleephood ties didnt sit flat. And then of course in order that the sleephood didnt fall out of the body of the carrier when the carrier was being fastened on to the waist we were back to the velcro or poppers dilema.
And so even though this carrier was all but finished I wasnt at all happy with it and decided that there really was only one thing for it, it had to be re-done minus the tuckable hood. And that is exactly what I did and now I am 100% happy if not humbly appologetic to the Mama who had figured on receiving her OFB with a tuckable sleephood.
500+ carriers sewn and I still dont always get it right first time but as I told a dear friend earlier today I dont do "it'll do" never have, never will, if something isnt right it just has to be re-done.
So without further ado the details, this is a Pre-schooler sized OFB with an additional Layer of Wrap fabric in the body of the carrier, sewn without a sleephood (ahem, cough.... as per the Mamas orginal request.) This OFB also has a chest strap made out of matching wrap fabric.
