Finally !!!!
I have been working from a really tiny shared space in my family home since I set up Ocah in 2008. I tolerated working from home whilst I had Caety & Libby at home with me as I was able to do some work whilst looking after them. I mainly worked in the evenings and at weekends in order that I could look after the girls but they started school full-time in September and so it was time to move Ocah out of our family space. It has been really hard work trying to find a space in the small village where I live, but to rent a space in Town would mean adding travel cost to my rent and would also lose me 1.5hrs out of my short working day (I am now working in school time, ....OK so I still work evenings and weekends too, but that will change just as soon as I move ! ). I had been looking for a space for 6 months and I was feeling quite despondent about ever moving out. My work stuff was everywhere and it was starting to make us all feel slightly fed up, but then one day for no reason at all I took a different route to my parents house nearby and drove right passed a sign offering a space to let ! I parked my car and went straight off to find out who I needed to talk to to see the space which turned out to be the ground floor of a very old bakery. The space was perfect the rent was the in my budget and the studio is in walking distance of our house and the girls school.
The Space is full of original Character, brick walls, huge windows, and a big old front door. The ground floor had been used for a short time as a small shop and I was keen to re-paint the whole place and set it up just right, I figured if I am going to spend lots of time there it has to be a happy place. My family left me to paint the ceilings and walls and then later came to clean floors (read Scrub floors, thanks Mum xx) , put up storage, move stuff, fix stuff and generally do anything and everything that needs to be done to get me moved in . My girls are really excited about "Mummys new studio" and Libby has drawn about 50 pictures for me to hang on the walls. I have three rooms spread over the whole of the ground floor of the bakery and you can be sure that a part of my new studio space is going to be set up just for my girls.
Keep your fingers crossed the big move is due to take place over the weekend. But in the meantime here a sneak peak of a part of my new studio space.
